Part theory, part practice, it will culminate in both a dissertation and exhibition design for "The Rescuers", that will be exhibited in Bosnia.
I will be conducting interviews over June and July, 2011, which will provide case studies for my dissertation as well. If you are a curator of designer who has worked with exhibitions, I would love to hear from you.willie101http://www.blogger.com/profile/12746071721025685020noreply@blogger.comBlogger54125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3798536593688465007.post-85470850500258862572011-10-01T23:10:00.000+09:002011-10-01T23:44:03.893+09:00Cambodian exhibitionThis week saw all of the panels and the accompanying booklet for the Cambodian exhibition complete in terms of the English language typesetting. Tomorrow the translator, printer and a Cambodian designer will meet to start work on all of the Khmer typesetting (nice to have such a team in place!). Once they have set all of the type in Khmer, I will take a look and see if the English needs to be reset in anyway, so that they look beautiful together. Below is a work-in-progress. It's the booklet that accompanies the exhibition, and will be given to people attending the workshops run by the Cambodian organisation Youth for Peace and PROOF: Media for Social Justice.
On another note, one of the Cambodians just new to the exhibition is actually an old friend of mine, Aki Ra. Its wonderful to have him and his story join all of the other amazing people who tell their stories. A huge thank you to Aki Ra and Bill Morse, who helps him run his Landmine Museum in Siem Reap, and also to Nicolas Axelrod, who braved the floods to photograph him. It's a truly wonderful photograph. willie101http://www.blogger.com/profile/12746071721025685020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3798536593688465007.post-50170475033401209982011-09-16T13:20:00.000+09:002011-09-16T13:20:24.107+09:00Posters for schools in Bosnia-Herzegovina
During the time of the Rescuers exhibition in Sarajevo, support was given to create a series of posters for school in the country, which I was asked to design. One request was that it should be more colourful that the exhibition, which had a black background. I did leave the black background for the title and map posters, though. The posters are A1 size and in Bosnian only.

In relation to the typography, I have kept the Adobe Caslon Pro, as it supports Bosnian very well, and connects it visually to the exhibition. Also, while it's tempting to change the typeface to something a little less formal, I was wary of lessening the importance of the stories and the theme of the exhibition itself.
Below is the series.
After I've completed all the panels, they will be sent to a Cambodian designer who will work with the translator to make sure the Khmer type is perfect. Then they will come back to me and I will re-set the English type to sit nicely with the Khmer. I have to say, Khmer script makes for a beautiful layout no matter what. It's such a beautiful language. Here are the panel designs so far.
One of the most challenging parts of working on a project like the Rescuers is definitely the fact that all of the people working on it are scattered across the globe. With the Bosnian version, there were people working on translations and the conference schedule in Sarajevo, photographers in England, Cambodia and other countries, the curator in (and out!) of the States and myself here in Japan. Skype gets a bit of a workout, to say the least, as does email. There are times though, when it would be nice to just be in the same room and work everything out, but alas, it doesn't work that way. As for the Bosnia exhibition, I've also found it really useful with this Cambodian version to keep tabs on things with project management docs.

Leora and I have a chat about the content of the exhibition, she decides who goes in (and I add my two-cents worth!), then I make a list which we use to make sure all of the content is collected. The list looks like this, this time around:

Apologies for having to break it up into two sections there. As you can see, what we have is a list of every panel, and whether or not we have the English-language content, the Khmer translations and the high res image. I have also made columns for the first round of design, which is almost complete, then a Khmer designer will work with the translator to typeset the Khmer, then it will come back to me again and I will fix up the English typesetting so that it all sits nicely together.
Then final checks will be done and it will go off to the printer. We're pretty much on schedule at this stage, as long as the first round is done by the 15th. Here's the other project management doc that I do up right at the beginning of the project, which I do up by working back form the opening date of the exhibition.
It's pretty simple, but very useful.

The other thing that these document do is encourage you to think systematically about a project. It's not just about the design - it's about communicating with a wide range of people from other countries. Keeping it clear, simple and precise can really help.

willie101http://www.blogger.com/profile/12746071721025685020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3798536593688465007.post-73367812927082987512011-09-12T09:33:00.000+09:002011-09-12T09:33:24.081+09:00And on to CambodiaIn my dissertation I have made the point that exhibition designers can understand context more thoroughly by taking a social semiotics approach. This is particularly important for typographic language, because it is within the field of social semiotics that typography is finally gaining some recognition as a multimodal signifying practice – that is, typographic language makes meaning in more than one way, and its meaning is contingent upon the cultural context in which it's operating. *

A Cambodian version of The Rescuers, which, like the Bosnian exhibition, is also bilingual, has its own challenges, but by approaching it from a social semiotic perspective, I believe it gives me a clearer picture of what is needed in the design. Firstly, the Khmer language in its digital form is very complex, and as the Unicode has only recently been developed, there's still a few problems associated with it. A few months back I tackled the issue of intsalling the Khmer unicode and a selection of typefaces, which means that now he design time is upon us I'm not trying to work all of that out. However, there are several issues still. Not all of the typefaces have been designed based on the unicode, so if you use them, they end up looking like this:

If you compare this typeface with the one below it, you can see that some of the characters are converted to another symbol by default. Many of the more decorative Khmer typefaces do this, making the choice of typefaces for use in the exhibition design quite limited.

I have designed the first panel and asked the translator to check the layout also. Khmer is a very difficult language to typeset because of all the sub and superscript consonants and vowels. Also, although I have been to Cambodia many time and also lived there for a while, it's impossible for me to understand what the connotations of this typeface might be visually. For these reasons, it's important that a native speaker also looks at the first round of typesetting and alerts me to anything that might be a mistake on either the linguistic of cultural level of communication.

Although this design is very challenging, I would say that understanding the cultural context is vital to its success, as is working with a team of people who you can openly communicate with.

Here is the panel layout, less any suggestions that might come from the translator.

It's very different from the Bosnian exhibition. the first thing is that the black is gone. This was requested by the curator who felt that it's a bit of a heavy colour for the subject matter. Also, as we have a bit more freedom with the size of the panels this time (they are printed, light-weight board), it was possible to bring the image right to the edge. The right hand side is actually a crop of the photograph, which I will do for all of the images. I like it because it give a continuity to the whole panel, and brings out more. The typeface in English has been changed to Carto Gothic pro (this was used for headings in Bosnia) - as we don't need to confine the English-language typesetting to a typeface that supports Bosnia, I had more freedom to choose a simpler, sans serif typeface. This was important because the Khmer is very decorative, no matter which typeface you set it in. Below are some examples of some Khmer typefaces - it's easy to see, even in a language that's not your own, how typefaces convey meaning visually as well as linguistically. The real trick is knowing what they are conveying if the culture and language are not your own.
In addition, I will start designing a Bosnian language-only poster version of the exhibition, which will travel around to schools. For this, I will slightly change the design, bringing in more colour and less black.

Below are some photographs of the exhibition in Sarajevo. Initially, I was worried about the legibility of text when I saw that the bottom panel had not been tilted up at a 45 degree angle. Leora (curator of The Rescuers) said there were no problems with legibility, though, and I think the people in the photos below mostly look comfortable when reading. A good sign.
I have just finished designing the three day conference program and information on panelists and keynote speakers, and it was very interesting to see the other side to this project, which I haven't really been involved in as designer, until the booklet design.

Part of my dissertation looks into education theories for the museum, and there are several reasons for this: firstly, visitor studies has evolved within museum studies from education theory (Hein 1998). While Visitor Studies is now explored in other fields of research, such as marketing (see Mencarelli, Marteaux and Pulh 2010), and is of growing importance to the field of museum studies in general (Macdonald 2006), its relationship with education theories is still highly relevant; it connects knowledge with learning, and increasingly positions the visitor as an active creator of meaning, rather than as a passive receiver of knowledge (Ebitz 2008; Hein 1998; Mayer 2005; Mason 2006).

The Rescuers exhibition and education program can be positioned between a constructivist and literary theory position; it allows for visitors to create their own meanings by not being overly didactic. Although it has large bodies of text, these are first-hand stories from the people that rescued others, not the words of the curatorial team. It is on the introduction panel only that the curatorial position is outlined, and serves to place the stories and images within a context for visitors, but does not provide them with an ultimate 'truth'.

The educational possibilities of the exhibition and the attached education program are quite different in terms of who they are directed to, but are essentially reflective of the same learning techniques found in contemporary educational theories, such as constructivism and literary theory.

First, a note on these theories
In constructivism, the visitor constructs knowledge by making connections between the object and their own lives, and is viewed as an active creator of meaning (Hein 1998; Mayer 205). More recently emerging Literary Theories provide an interesting framework also. Lisa Roberts (1997) argues that visitors don't merely accept the 'official narrative' put forward by museums, but construct their own narratives based on what they see (Mayer 2005; Roberts 1997). McKay and Menteverde (2003) present the notion of dialogic looking, a three-fold approach to learning that incorporates simultaneously occuring dialogues; those within ourselves, with partners, and with the objects themselves (Mayer 2005; Brady 2009). Both of these literary approaches act more as guides than definitive learning theories.

From constructivism has sprung two theories of learning that have a growing acceptance within museum practice; Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS), devised by Housen and Yenawine (Mayer 2005; Goldberg 2005), incorporates the use of guided questions to encourage the construction of meaning by students/visitors. Falk and Dierking's Contextual Model of Learning (CML) places an emphasis on the context of learning beyond the object and into the realm of overlapping and interacting contexts of learning: the personal, sociocultural and physical (Mayer 2005; Falk and Dierking 1992; 2000).

The Rescuers - the exhibition
In the case of The Rescuers, the 'object' is both the photographs and the accompanying text/story). The spatial element of the exhibition is also important: it is not within the walls of a museum, but in a large outdoor space that attracts approximately 125,000 visitors a day.* Therefore, it is important to consider the visitor in the set up of the exhibition, and acknowledge that in many cases people will only partially view the exhibition on their way to somewhere else, and that they also will approach the exhibition from various angles, creating a decidedly non-linear view. In this regard, it's important to understand that visitors will take away a greatly varying impression of the objects. If they take in all of the information, they might come to understand the connection between the objects and the reasons why this connection is being made. If they only take in part of the exhibition, they still might come to an understanding of its theme (the prevention of genocide), but they might or might not make the connection between the object (the person and their story) and their own lives. In addition, because the exhibition is within one of the countries that conflict occurred in, it's very likely connections, regardless of the amount of content viewed, will be made made in a different way than if the exhibition was shown in another location that had no such history of conflict.

It's important, then, that the rescuers stories are allowed to come to the fore, without much interference or suggestion from the curatorial team. However, it is also important that these stories be supported by a wider context which pitches the issues on a global stage, and encourages viewers to see beyond borders of nations, genders, races or religions, and are guided by the question of why and how genocide can be prevented and through which mechanisms. This question is encapsulated within the introductory panels of the exhibition, as well as on a much broader scale in the education program.

The Rescuers - the education program
The education program attached to the exhibition approaches both the material for learning and the visitors in another way. Along with viewing the exhibition, students are immersed in the program for 3 days, and are encouraged to actively participate in discussions, break out sessions, view films and be involved in Q&A sessions with the film makers, and listen to keynote speakers. Accompanying functions also enable the students to meet and discuss issues relating to the prevention of violence and genocide with some of the world's preeminent scholars and professionals in the world today (see the program above for more information).

The visitors are markedly different from the public exhibition visitors: they are immersed in the three-day program and can also choose specific elements of the program, such as panel discussions. The information they will both receive and discuss will be much more extensive and intense, and will require both their attention and their participation. In addition, there are also more physical learning techniques being offered, such as break out sessions on learning through drama and sports.

What this program amounts to in terms of learning theory can be seen as including various elements of the theories mentioned above. For example, the visitor of both the exhibition and the conference is considered an active maker of meaning in constructivist terms. It also places the visitor in the various personal, physical and sociological contexts of CML, and, interestingly, also allows them to create their own narrative alongside that of the exhibition, as put forward by Roberts' branch of literary theory. It also tips a hat to dialogic looking, in that it encourages meaning making on three levels: internally (questioning a personal ability to rescue if needed), between partners (discussions between public exhibition visitors and conference attendees) and with the objects (the visual and textual objects of the exhibition, along with the films and other multimedia presentations during the conference). As VTS is based more on aesthetic learning, it only partially contributes as a theory, but is still important in terms of the visitor making connections between the visual and the textual in order to make meaning. The visual element and the creation of personal meaning is an important point to this exhibition, as its main focus is to unite people beyond borders.

So, how does this relate to typography?
In contemporary museum studies, there is an increasing emphasis on taking an interdisciplinary approach to the museum as text (Mason 2006; Macdonald 2006). The museum (or, in a wider context, exhibitions in general) is a place where objects of cultural significance are given a contextual framework for looking that is constructed. Within this framework sits typography, and as educational theories and visitor studies continue to grow in importance, typography, it can be argued, has much to contribute. It provides information on both a connotative and denotative level; it guides, it educates, it provides visual links between objects, ideas and information, and it entertains (or, sadly, the opposite if not designed properly). Typography can encourage or discourage the deeper reading of what Baxandall (1991) termed 'labels' - that is, anything attached to the exhibition of a textual nature, such as catalogs, labels, postcards, posters - anything that provides information or ideas.

Long gone are the exposition days of stacking art works upon each other from floor to ceiling; museums have an increasingly complex role within society as mimetic and mythical houses of cultural and historical representation (Mason 2006). Who and what is represented and how - not to mention who or what is not represented - has been the cause of wide debates in the last half of the 20th Century in particular. The rise of social concerns such lesbian and gay rights, feminism, multiculturalism, disability issues and civil rights (Mason 2006; Milner and Browitt 2002) has necessitated a review of issues of representation, and the need for a interdisciplinary approach that incorporates education theories, cultural theories and visitor studies; visual communication that links these elements is vitally important to also understand, and in particular how typography works as a tool of visual communication.
The first round is completed, plus the first round of proofreading, and they are now in the second round of proofreading. I have also gone through each panel and checked the English, so there are at least 3 people checking everything. Below is one of my favourite panels.

Incidentally, I've been to Cambodia four times, and lived and worked there also, and when I look at Romny's image and read her story, I'm reminded of all my friends there; their stories, their families that were killed, and their hearts. Being part of this project is just such a gift.

A film has been made about one of my best friends in Cambodia, Aki Ra. Here is the trailer.willie101http://www.blogger.com/profile/12746071721025685020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3798536593688465007.post-7687208131376526072011-06-04T14:21:00.000+09:002011-06-04T14:21:00.506+09:00Update on designs
The panels are now being designed. Because a lot of preliminary work has already gone into the main panels, I don't think they will take so long to create, but I knew that the title panels would be the big problem, as they need to include a lot of information in very little space. First, the main title for the exhibition is below. This had to include the message from General Dallaire.

Big thank you to them!

The large panel, as we know, is 150cm x 86cm, and the bottom panel is 150cm x 25cm. The panel designs will finally begin tomorrow - in earnest!

In the meantime, I created a tri-fold brochure for the US exhibition today. I didn't actually know it was for the US exhibition until after I had designed it, otherwise I would have used the same typefaces as the US version, but alas, it was too late. Never mind - the colours and overall look is the same, so it will have to do.

Here are some photos of the mock up I made, to test legibility and the folds. I've modified it a little since these were taken, and some minor editing will have to be done later.
Dallaire, in both Bosnian and English, of course.
For those of you who know who the Lieutenant General is, you will know he was head of the UN Peace Keeping Force when they (finally) went into Rwanda. Dallaire has been tireless in his work in genocide prevention and education. More can be learned about his work here: http://www.romeodallaire.com/

Currently, Dallaire is a Canadian Senator.
Well, onto the design. I have made a mock up of the design both with the large and small panel. Rather than having any one image, I've chosen eight, selected from all countries/regions represented in the exhibition.
No more experiments! We have all of the information except one little thing that might actually have a large impact on what happens next: the structure of the bottom panel (mentioned two posts ago) also has the printer a bit stumped, so until it comes from Belgrade and he can check it out on person, I have to wait. This means that until I can know for sure, this design might still change.

IF the design needs to be folded with the metal, this version I'm showing you now will change slightly. The graphics at the bottom (the film spools) will be moved to the bottom and folded under with the metal. If the design is not done that way, then I might rethink this, leaving it where it is, and just making the background of the smaller panel black with the same type and colour as the name of the person at the top.

My main worry is if they can't do those panels for any reason, then the breakout quotes either need to be added to the main panel, which changes all of the text again. This is a bit of a worry, because these panels are small than the original ones we were thinking of. The text size is the same as the designs for the other frames, but this is only because the breakout quotes have been taken out. If they need to be put back in...hmmm. Well, we'll just have to wait until next week when the printer will get back to me.

In the meantime, I've designed a large panel, according the the new specs, and printed it out. I kind of messed up the cutting and sticking stage for all the pieces, but I'm going to do it again this afternoon (when I get back from the 100 yen shop with cutting equipment and glue!). Anyway, the real purpose was to print the type to life size and hang it and read it to see if there are any tracking or legibility issues. So far so good, I think! The printing process will make the blue much more vibrant than my printer could come up with, so I think it will actually look very nice.

Here's photos for now - when I make the whole panel later. I'll post some more. I'll also do a mock up of the smaller panel and put them together later - watch this space!
Not only is he discussing type, but also how another designer adapted his type when designing his exhibition. Perfect! Wim Crouwel's prolific work in typography and design can also be viewed in this amazing collection, compiled by Het Geheugen van Nederland. They have beautiful high res images of his work, as well as sketches that are very interesting for viewing how designers worked in the 50s and 60s.

Enjoy the interview!
Each panel has an extra attachment at the bottom, which you can see in the image below. This will give us more space, and in each panel will probably hold the breakout quotes, but we're still waiting on the exact size for this. I've contacted a printer in Serbia who worked on the ICRC exhibition in Belgrade (see previous post), so hopefully I will have that information by tomorrow at the latest.
Hein's book, Learning in the Museum (1998), is one of the many I have going on the boiler at the moment, and I wanted to take some time out to discuss his second chapter, Educational Theory, and how Hein relates it to the museum.

Hein outlines four major educational theories: Didactic/Expository, Discovery, Stimulus-Response and Constructivism. Each theory travels along what Hein calls continuums: the first is based on theories of epistemology (what knowledge is and how it is attained), the second route is based on theories of learning.

Theories of Knowledge
Epistemology's continuum has two main extremes at either end. The first views all knowledge as existing outside the individual, the second, that all knowledge is derived from within the individual. The former is also known as a realist epistemology, and focuses on the subject itself being learned, as it exists independent of, and outside, the learner. In the museum context, a realist curator views the objects as having a meaning in the real world, independent of individual interpretation. The the focus of the curator's educational plan, therefore, is not the viewer/learner, but the subject itself.

An idealist creator, on the other hand, views knowledge as residing within the individual's own consciousness, and that true reality can never be known; rather, 'truth' is subjective to individual interpretation, which is also dependent upon the individual's personal and social history. An exhibition in this context will not expect a defined learning outcome, but will take into account the fact that multiple perspectives are possible - and probable. The knowledge continuum, as outlined by Hein, looks like this:

Hein's continuum of theories of knowledge. Source: Hein (1998: 18).

Somewhere in the middle of this continuum, this road of polar extremes, I believe the 'truth' (for want of a better expression) really lies (and yes, I do see the irony of believing in a truth!). An individual can gain no knowledge of anything (except possibly themselves) if there is no greater world around them to gain knowledge of. Likewise, knowledge in itself needs minds to exist within, and therefore cannot exist without individual thought and interpretation. In addition, there is the issue of the great pool of knowledge which came from individual minds and is passed on to others, particularly those important discoveries that fundamentally changed the way we think about the world around us, such as theories of gravity, as Hein exemplifies. On the other hand, one person's knowledge can effect the way others gain knowledge, and this is particularly true for the museum, where curators decide what and how objects are displayed, leading to possible interpretations through the presentation of supporting text, or, in other cases, lack thereof. In other words, one person's inner knowledge gives rise to incidences outside of themselves that affect the way others gain knowledge, and, as this is happening in many ways all around us every day, it is highly improbable that external knowledge can exist without internal knowledge, and vice versa.

Theories of Learning
Hein also provides a continuum for theories of learning, each end also with its own extreme. At one end is transmission-absorption, which entails a teacher (or curator) transmitting the message to be learned, and the learner absorbing it. This places more emphasis on the teacher as the active participant, as they incrementally transmit their knowledge of a subject in small enough portions to be absorbed by the more passive learner - the vessel to be filled.

On the other end of the continuum is the notion that learners construct knowledge of their own accord. A teacher or curator might wish to impart certain knowledge of a subject onto the learner, but this does not necessarily mean this is the meaning the learner will construct for themselves. The central point to this end of the continuum is the learner.

Hein's continuum of learning theories looks like this:

Theories of Teaching
These theoretical approaches are met with the third element to Hein's educational theories; how to apply them in practice through theories of teaching. He joins together the continuum of theories of knowledge with that of theories of learning to create the four quadrants of teaching theory:

Pedagogy
The Didactic/Expository pedagogy focuses exclusively on the subject. It's theory of knowledge is based on knowledge existing exclusively outside the learner, and needs to be learned incrementally. In short, something is taught and it is then absorbed (Hein 1998). A good example of this is rote learning of mathematical tables, scientific formulas or the dates of historical events for impending exams. the teacher teaches facts and the student absorbs them, then regurgitates them at a later date. Many critics of this kind of learning stress that it does not encourage critical thinking, and that knowledge is not easily adaptable to other situations, such as the creation of new formulas for maths or science.

Historically, museums have imparted knowledge from this view; the professional to the layman. Didactic programs were popular in the 19th Century, around the time that museums started to be recognised as important educational institutions for the masses. As educational theories have changed, so too have many museums shifted their focus towards more visitor-focused education policies.

On the lower half of the incremental learning scale is Stimulus-Response pedagogy.

On the other half of the learning theory continuum is Discovery and Constructivism. Discovery is interesting, and perhaps paradoxical, in that it allows for learner-based 'hands and minds on' discovery, by acknowledging the importance of first hand experience in learning, but sets definitive learning outcomes. In contrast, Constructivism is more concerned with what is already in the learner's mind, and, at its most extreme, experience, not teaching per se, is the best way to learn. Hein contends that Constructivism places more demands on a teacher, as they have to provide a stimulating and engaging environment for the students to learn within.

Even at its most extreme, even constructivism, it could be argued, is also dependent upon the reality outside the learner to exist, and a purely didactic classroom is also only effective if the students gain an internal understanding of the material being taught. This brings us back to theories of knowledge, and how they cannot exist without each other.

Educational theories, designers and exhibitions
So, why must a designer who is working on an exhibition consider the educational theories of the institution they are working for? Because the educational policies can greatly effect the way in which we, as designers, present information. The parameters we are allowed to work within are always tied to the client's needs, and understanding how a curator wishes to communicate information is fundamental to understanding their design needs.

Typography is particularly dependent upon this understanding. If you know the exhibition is curated from a Constructivist point of view, or from a more didactic policy, this can lead you to a greater understanding of what is to be communicated and how, and radically affect the choice of typeface, layout and even the type of materials the type is to appear on.
It's food for thought, isn't it?willie101http://www.blogger.com/profile/12746071721025685020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3798536593688465007.post-55976916202448740972011-05-18T14:11:00.000+09:002011-05-18T14:15:15.889+09:00Project Management - part 2After a very quick chat with Leora this morning and a flurry of emails, it is now apparent that the framework of the design will be completely different to what had been planned. This is due to the fact that the frames cannot be produced in Bosnia.

An alternative has been provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The frames used for the "Missing Lives" exhibition have been offered to Proof for The Rescuers, and design specifications will (hopefully) be sent to Leora tomorrow.

This link has an image and some video on the Missing Lives exhibition, which shows the set up of the frames.

This link is taken from the exhibition's facebook page, and has more images.

In some of the images, it looks as if the panels are put together in pods, much like the last frame proposal. This will determine the sequence of the exhibition panels.

Content
There will now only be 20 panels, which means some of the original plan must be dropped. The list is now:

3 x Title panel
Maps/conflict information
Intro to exhibitions, photographers and PROOF
(The message from Lieutenant General Roméo A. Dallaire will be incorporated into one of these panels).

4 x panels- Rwanda:

Salis, Augustine, Josephine, Enoch

4 x panels - Cambodia

Ngog, Ang, Seng and [name]

3 x panels - Holocaust:

Frieda, Jan, Andree & Paulina [combined on one panel]

7 x panels Bosnia:
Hassan, Mina, Salina, Zoran, Josef, Bjo, Bishop

For those whiz bang mathematicians out there, you'll notice this does not add up to 20, but 21. I'll have to quiz Leora next time I speak with her about which one she wants to drop. The next thing to do is to update and distribute the project management outlines (lists of materials needed and panel sequence). As the specs haven't arrived yet for the frame layout, the panel sequence will have to wait, but below is the new materials list.
